One of the most common reasons people put off booking an eye exam is cost. If you’re not sure what to expect, or whether your insurance covers it, here’s a straightforward breakdown.
At Illusion Eyewear & Eyecare in Mississauga, we believe cost should never be a barrier to looking after your eye health — and for most people, it doesn’t have to be.
What Does an Eye Exam Cost in Mississauga?
A comprehensive eye exam at Illusion Eyewear & Eyecare is $95 for adults ages 20 to 64. This covers a full assessment of both your vision and the health of your eyes — not just a prescription check.
What Does OHIP Cover?
OHIP covers eye exams for two groups:
- Children and teenagers 19 and under — one comprehensive exam per year at no cost
- Adults 65 and older — one comprehensive exam every 18 months at no cost
If you fall into either of these categories, bring your valid Ontario health card and your exam is fully covered.
What About Extended Health Insurance?
Most employer-sponsored health plans include vision care coverage. Depending on your plan, this may cover the full $95 or reimburse a portion of it. Many people are surprised to find they have coverage they’ve never used.
Illusion Eyewear & Eyecare offers direct billing to major insurance providers including Sun Life, Manulife, Green Shield, and Blue Cross. Direct billing to Sun Life in particular is becoming increasingly rare among optical stores — we’re one of the few in Mississauga that still offer it, which means no out-of-pocket payment and no paperwork for you.
We recommend confirming your coverage amount and eligibility before your appointment — we’re happy to help you figure it out.
Is $95 Worth It?
A comprehensive eye exam does a lot more than update your glasses prescription. Dr. Angela Fu checks for early signs of glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and other conditions — many of which cause no symptoms until significant damage has already occurred.
Catching these conditions early almost always means better outcomes and lower long-term costs. The $95 exam today can prevent far more serious and expensive problems down the road.
What’s Not Included in the Exam Fee?
The $95 covers the exam itself. If you need glasses or contact lenses, frames, lenses, and contact lens fittings are separate. We’ll always give you a clear breakdown before anything is recommended or ordered.
